Contribute to Your Body's Defenses

Our relaxing cupping massage is great for balancing the body while making it more resistant to disease-causing bacteria or viruses.

What is Cupping Massage?

Cupping massage is based on the ancient Chinese belief that some health problems are caused by stagnant blood and energy flow within the body. To aid in prevention or repair of these health issues, cupping practitioners apply either glass or silicone cups to your skin. By application of the cups, a pressure is created to suck the skin inward to pull skin, tissues and muscles upward. Therapeutic cupping massage is known to draw blood underneath the skin thus increasing blood flow. This vacuum process in turn is said to relieve muscle tension, improve circulation, lessen inflammation and support pain relief.

The light cupping technique which our therapists also do can move lymphatic fluid through your lymphatic system helping to alleviate sinus headaches and puffy eyes. Our cupping massages will take place on your thick skin areas, such as your back, or if lightly, certain areas of the face. The process will only be used for five to ten minutes in a specific area. Each treatment is unique to you.

What to Expect After Cupping

After your cupping therapy, you should expect red, blue or purplish circles on your skin where the area was cupped. This is temporary and will last anywhere from a couple days to some weeks, but is rarely painful. Once the marks disappear, you may come in for another procedure and repeat until your ailment has been successfully treated.

Cupping Techniques:

We use two types of cupping techniques at our spa:

  • Fixed Cupping: This cupping massage process involves the fixing of the cups for five to ten minutes in an area of your skin which is thicker. Thus increasing blood flow and bringing the benefits described above.
  • Moving Cupping: This cupping technique involves the use of massage oil or gentle cream on your skin in certain places. Your practitioner then moves the cups around sliding them on the region of your body that is being treated.

The cupping massage techniques differ yet serve a similar purpose of improving blood circulation in the area which needs treatment. The process is said to attract immune cells to the affected location which then increases repair and recovery, thus alleviating swelling. Cupping is known to help with the removal of toxins from the body and stimulate the flow of fresh blood, and lymphatic fluid.
